The presidential primaries have conjured up thoughts of presidents past and future and one of the country's most beloved leaders, President John F. Kennedy, once spent a lot of time on Cape Cod.
The Kennedy clan will forever be a fixture on Cape Cod. For many, a trip to the Cape is incomplete without a visit to Hyannis, President John F. Kennedy's home away from home.
In 1928, JFK's parents, Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy and Joseph P. Kennedy Sr., purchased a summer home in Hyannis Port and that and the surrounding properties have since been known as the Kennedy Compound.
During his presidency, John F. Kennedy, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and their children often found refuge here in "Cape Cod Camelot".
Of the Cape, JFK once said, "All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. And when we go back to the sea--whether it is to sail or to watch it--we are going back from whence we came."
The John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum on Main Street in Hyannis houses an impressive collection of Kennedy family photographs and memorabilia.
Visitors to Hyannis have the opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the famous family along the Hyannis Kennedy Legacy Trail. The 1.6 mile trail features ten sites including the museum, all an important part of Kennedy Family History.
