Ten Reasons Cape Cod is THE Destination for Your Next Vacation
How to spend vacations in Cape Cod
While most people don’t need a list of reasons to get away to Cape Cod for a fabulous vacation, it never hurts to enumerate the reasons that getting away to Cape Cod is one of the best trips you can plan. Here are some enticing reasons to come and visit Cape Cod.
Beaches. The Cape is most known for its beautiful beaches, from the long tidal flats of Cape Cod Bay to the rough ocean waters of the National Seashore to the lovely waves of Nantucket Sound, not to mention numerous fresh water ponds that are perfect for children. There are beaches for every swimming level, and if you aren’t the type who likes going for a dip, basking in the sun and playing in the sand is also very enjoyable on Cape Cod. There are beaches on every stretch of the Cape, including the Outer Cape, the Lower Cape, the Mid Cape, and the Upper Cape.
Accessible. With a ferry that runs from Boston to Provincetown, two bridges (the Bourne Bridge and the Sagamore Bridge), the Cape Cod Flyer train service, bus service, and even the option to fly in, there is no difficulty in getting to Cape Cod.
Once on the Cape, the roads are relatively easy to navigate (a local saying is that all roads lead to 6A), and there are many miles of bike trails if you want to go green while exploring, including the Shining Sea Bikeway, the Cape Cod Rail Trail, the Cape Cod Canal Bikeway and other short paths.
Not a big city. Cape Cod has plenty of cultural attractions and great restaurants without all the smog and hullabaloo of the big city.
Small town feel with plenty of amenities. To elaborate on the “not a big city” point, the main streets of Cape Cod exemplify the glory of a small town, with plenty of convenience. There are lots of locally-owned businesses (and great local ice cream shops that will have you marveling at the quality of ice cream) and plenty of places to stop in and unwind. Another fun stop can be the farmer’s markets, which feature great food from local farmers and crafts from local artisans.
Great art and culture. From galleries that celebrate all sorts of artistic mediums to fabulous theatre to marvelous museums, the Cape has plenty of culture to delight and inform visitors.
Varied landscapes. Of course the beaches of the Cape are wonderful, but there are also amazing windswept dunes to explore and forested areas to hike through.
Some of the best restaurants around. Whatever your predilection, there is sure to be a restaurant to satisfy your tastes.
Quaint and beautiful. Driving down the road you will see water views, beautiful homes, and forested areas for most of the Cape, especially on historic Route 6A. Another plus to Route 6A? There are numerous art galleries and antique shops right off the road, as well as delicious places to stop in for a bite to eat (and the food is real).
Informative aquariums. There are several local aquariums if you want to learn about the creatures that inhabit the local waters. These are especially fun for young kids.
Plenty of fun activities. Whether you want to go putter around a mini-golf course, go bowling, ice skate, boating (kayaking, sailing), go-karting, or something else family-friendly, or you want to try something new and exciting, such as sky diving, kite surfing, parasailing, jet skiing, or stand-up paddleboarding, Cape Cod has something for you. Even if you haven’t had experience in some of these activities, there is no better time to learn than on your vacation. There are also lots of fun tours, especially fishing charters and whale watches, as well as tours of local sights. If you want to immerse yourself in a real local tradition, come and tour a cranberry bog. And if you are a golfer, the Cape has fantastic courses that will help you whittle the hours away in leisure. Of course, if you want something fun and free to do with the kids, the Cape also has numerous playgrounds.
So no matter what your reasons, come to the Cape Cod for a fantastic vacation that you and your family will treasure and remember for years to come.
