Paint the Cape green: Three ways to celebrate St. Patrick's Day
Cape Holiday
St. Patrick's Day is coming up and there are plenty of ways to celebrate here on Cape Cod. Last weekend, we got the ball rolling with our very popular Cape Cod St. Patrick's Parade, but there is still more fun to come. Here are three ways to paint the town and the Cape green:
1. Save some green: Enjoy a last minute, mini-vacation and stay at one of the Cape's many comfortable hotels, motels or inns. It's the quiet season here on Cape Cod, which means you'll find a cozy room and save some cash. See our lodging section for ideas.
2. Hit the greens: Ask any golfer, there are two great things about golfing on Cape Cod--there are many courses to choose from and you can do it year-round! With more than 25 public courses (and several private courses, too), it will take some time to putt your way across the Cape. Town-run courses such as Dennis Pines or Dennis Highlands in Dennis or the Captains Golf Course in Brewster offer deep discounts for off-season tee times.
3. Eat some greens: Cabbage that is--with your brisket and an ice cold beer. Many of your favorite Cape restaurants are serving up traditional Irish fare this week including the Hearth 'n Kettle which is celebrating all day on St. Patrick's Day with Irish Benedict, a boiled dinner and a Cape Cod favorite, fish & chips.
Many local restaurants and pubs are also celebrating with live music, dancing and comedy. Cape Cod Irish Village has Irish music through the week and the British Beer Company has live music on March 17 in Falmouth, Sandwich and Plymouth.
Celebrate St. Patrick's Day all week with nine holes followed by a delicious dinner. Here, Dennis Pines in East Dennis. Photo courtesy of Dennis Golf.
