Cranberry Cocktails for Cape Cod
Delicious Drinks to Make At Home
What’s a relaxing evening without a refreshing, summertime drink? With the number of cranberry bogs throughout the Cape, it’s no surprise that cocktails made with cranberry juice are some of the most popular.
The staple of these cocktails is the Cape Codder. Reliable, refreshing, and able to be mixed up in minutes, it’s a simple drink that most bartenders would be pleased to make during happy hour. Bring back fond vacation memories any time of the year by making the Cape’s signature beverage at home.
The Cape Codder
Ingredients:
Cranberry juice - 3 ounces
Vodka - 2 ounces
Lime wedge
Directions:
Pour the ingredients into a highball glass with ice and stir well. Garnish with a lime wedge.
Being such a simple mixture, the Cape Codder is one of those drinks easily adjusted for personal preference. Make it stronger with extra vodka, or weaker by adding more juice. Adding a splash of lime gives just a hint of tart citrus to balance out the sweetness of the cranberry. The Cape Codder can also be spritzed up with a splash of clear soda or seltzer, making it a bit lighter and adding refreshing carbonation.
For fancier affairs, skip the Cape Codder and instead mix up some Crantinis, aka the Cranberry Martini. The vibrant red color lets it stand out from other martinis, inherently making it the toast of any cocktail party. Clink glasses with a loved one under the stars or sip while making plans to go shopping at some boutiques.
Cantini
Ingredients:
Vodka - 3½ ounces
Cranberry liqueur or cranberry juice - ½ ounce
Fresh cranberries
Directions:
Pour vodka and cranberry liqueur or juice into a cocktail shaker with ice. Stir well, then strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish by dropping cranberries into the glass.
Satisfy the sweet tooth with the Jolly Rancher, which adds fruity liqueurs to the mix to replicate the taste of the famous candy. It’s a perfect candidate for a party punch, being sweet, strong, and easy to mix up in large batches. Just make sure to stock up on the ingredients, because since it tastes like candy, it will go fast.
Jolly Rancher
Ingredients:
Green apple vodka - 1 ounce
Peach schnapps - 1 ounce
Cranberry juice - 4 ounces
Orange wedge
Directions:
Pour the vodka and schnapps into a highball glass filled with ice and top with the cranberry juice. Garnish with the orange wedge and enjoy.
While the orange wedge is optional, adding several sliced oranges to a pitcher adds an extra bit of sweetness to even out the cranberry juice's tartness. Also, like the Cape Codder, the Jolly Rancher can be topped with Sprite or Ginger Ale to make it even more refreshing.
Please drink responsibly.
