Hidden Hollow and Family Fun Fridays at Heritage
Tech-Free Fun Fridays in Sandwich, MA
With an antique carousel, beautiful gardens, and so many other attractions, it’s no wonder that Heritage Museums & Gardens in Sandwich is such a big hit with families. “We’ve been around since 1969 and we believe that we strengthen families,” says Amy Dean, the Director of Marketing, Communications, and PR. “A lot of times we get parents who tell us that they came here as kids, so they’re continuing the tradition.”
According to Dean, Heritage is where families will put away their technology and spend time together outside. Hidden Hollow is especially popular, as kids can play in the treehouse, navigate log balance beams, build forts, play with instruments, and more.
She says, “I can’t tell you how many times I go down during the summer and I see the dads sitting on the ground getting involved. It’s really a timeless space.” Kids and parents alike can also enjoy unlimited rides on the 1908 Charles Looff Carousel, appreciating both the hand-carved horses and charming music. Inside the museum, many families bond over the Automobile Gallery, where cars from the past hundred years are on display. “Seeing all these majestic cars of the past gets the parents talking to their kids about technology and innovation, and if the grandparents are with them it gets really interesting.”
Heritage offers a full summer schedule, including Family Fun Fridays. “It’s a full day of activities for children. At 11 am there’s live music on the outdoor performance stage.” From puppet shows to performers to magicians, there are plenty of options for keeping kids entertained. “Heritage is very proud to be preserving these 100 acres for years to come. Families get out and experience nature together and the exhibits get them talking.”
