Historical Fun in Connecticut
There is plenty of history to be found in Connecticut.
Connecticut is a New England state filled with a rich colonial history. There are plenty of historical attractions, see houses of famous authors Mark Twain and Harriet Beecher Stowe, learn about the history of the area in one of their many museums, and much more.
Located in Hartford, Twain wrote many of his famous novels here including The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Prince and the Pauper and Huckleberry Finn. The 25-room Mark Twain House is a breathtaking example of Gothic architecture and is a necessary stop for those that are fans of great literature.
Author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Harriet Beecher Stowe lived in Hartford for the last 23 years of her life. Located next to the Mark Twain House, the Harriet Beecher Stowe House makes an excellent addition to your trip. Not only will you learn about the author and her family, you’ll gain insight into the makings of the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement.
The Submarine Force Museum grants you the exciting opportunity to see what operating a submarine is like. Climb into the historic USS Nautilus, the world first operational nuclear powered submarine, and learn about the lives of the men and women who made these “sharks of steel” run.
Mystic is a village located within the two towns of Groton and Stonington, and is popular among tourists for its quaint restaurants and shops. It’s also home to the Mystic Aquarium, which has one of the largest outdoor beluga whale exhibits. Stop by for a slice at Mystic Pizza. As you walk around, you’ll notice some scenes from the movie of the same name.
