Local & luscious: Three Cod Cod-inspired Valentine's Day treats
How to Make Cape Cod Romantic
While warm summer breezes are hard to come by on Cape Cod in February, we more than make up for it with cozy comfort.
And nothing says cozy like a romantic Valentine's Day (even better, Valentine's weekend) on the Cape. A not so subtle holiday, Valentine's Day is about show--sparkly gems, fuzzy teddy bears and bursting hearts.
Here are three Cape Cod-inspired treats to make your Valentine's Day special.
1. Lobster - A delicious, succulent lobster plucked from the sea is a romantic dinner must. You can pop it in your mac & cheese or stuff it in a toasted roll, but nothing beats cracking open a red, hot steamed 2-pounder. Pick a favorite restaurant, order room service at your hotel, or cook up your own in your rental home or cottage. If you are going to DIY, head to a local fish market for the lobster and some pointers from the experts. If you are a bit squeamish about doing the deed, most fish markets will steam your lobster for you.
2. Chocolates - You don't have to go to Europe or a big city for fine sweets. Cape Cod has several excellent chocolatiers. Always a treat, these pros really ramp up their game come Valentine's Day. Check out Chequessett Chocolate in North Truro, Chatham Candy Manor in Chatham and Ghelfi's Candies of Cape Cod in Falmouth and Mashpee, to name a few.
3. Coffee - After an evening of decadent delight, wake your special someone with a delicious cup of coffee. Visit a local coffee shop, or brew a cup of your own using fresh beans roasted right here on Cape Cod. Check out Snowy Owl Coffee Roasters in Brewster or Cape Cod Coffee in Mashpee to name two.
