Trivia lovers will tell you--there is nothing more fun than enjoying a pint while exercising the little gray cells. If you thirst for hops and knowledge but are looking for something a bit different, check out a local "on tap" event. Heritage Museum and Gardens and the Fund for Animals Cape Wildlife Center are both hosting an independent winter series with local partners.
The Heritage History on Tap Series brings Curator Jennifer Madden to a local tavern for some interesting conversation. Madden brings an item(s) to the event and participants are welcomed to get a closer look than afforded in a museum setting. "People tell us that they have such a personal connection to the items in our collection," said Heritage Museums & Gardens President & CEO. "History on Tap provides up close and personal access to museum objects and provides people with a chance to share their personal history in a lively discussion with fellow art, history and museum enthusiasts while enjoying good food and drink from a local restaurant."
The next History on Tap event is on Monday, February 22 from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Tomatoes Italian Grille & Bar at 280 Route 130 in Sandwich. Another event follows at The Pilot House at 14 Gallo Road in Sandwich on Wednesday, March 30. Admission and participation at both events is free. The Cape Wildlife Center's Wildlife on Tap Series is held at Cape Cod Beer, 1336 Phinney's Lane in Hyannis. This popular series features animal and science experts on a variety of topics. The admission fee of $10 ($13 at the door) benefits the wild animal intake facility at 4011 Main Street in Barnstable. Admission includes free popcorn and other "goodies". The brewery's award-winning beer plus wine and soft drinks are available for purchase.
The next Wildlife on Tap Series lecture is "Technological Deep-Sea Sleuthing" on Wednesday, February 10. The lecture is presented by Kara Dodge, Ph.D., of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. Other lectures include "Guns, Germs and Cell Phones: The Threats to Gorilla Populations" by Christopher Whittier, DVM, Ph.D. of Tufts Center for Conservation Medicine on Wednesday, March 9 and "Space-age Tracking of Cape Cod's Sharks--Are Our Locals Homebodies or Snowbirds? by Simon Thorrold, Ph.D. of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution on Wednesday, April 13. All lectures are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to register in advance as lectures tend to sell out.
