Cape History
In a blinding snowstorm on February 14, 1927, the Gloucester fishing schooner Elsie G. Silva came ashore on the beach at the Pamet River in Truro.
The crew of 20 men abandoned the vessel in five dories.
The entire crew made it to shore with the help of the United States Coast Guard.
The Elsie G. Silva is listed in the Department of Commerce Bureau of Navigation's 52nd Annual List of Merchant Vessels of the United States (1920) as having a gross tonnage of 106 and being 101.7" in length. She was listed as a fishing boat with a crew of 17, built in her homeport of Gloucester in 1915.
