Romantic Spots in Falmouth
Falmouth offers year-round opportunities for romance
Love is in the air in Falmouth any time of year, which makes it ideal for romantic outings. Whether it’s your first date or an anniversary, there’s plenty of opportunities to make it a day to remember.
“Maybe have a picnic on the beach,” suggests Maura Aldrich, Vice President of Tourism in Falmouth. “I would suggest any of the West-facing beaches at sunset.” Falmouth has twelve beaches, so there’s plenty to choose from. Old Silver Beach and Chapoquoit Beach both have spectacular sunsets and long stretches of white sand. Just pack up a basket with chocolate-covered strawberries, champagne, and other goodies, and find that perfect spot to settle in.
For those who love the picnic idea but hate sand, she recommends hiking out to The Knob. Located in the Woods Hole area of Falmouth, it’s a major attraction for its nature walk, birding, and beautiful views of Quissett Harbor and Buzzards Bay. “It’s like this little peninsula that you can walk onto,” says Aldrich. “It’s private and serene and beautiful.”
Looking to treat your loved one to a gift that’s unique? The owner of the Falmouth Jewelry Shop, Jan Freeman, creates custom jewelry. Cast from real shells found on the local beaches and combined with gold and silver, she works with clients to create the perfect necklace, bracelet, or ring.
But why just stay in Falmouth for one day? Aldrich recommends making a romantic outing extra special by staying in town for a weekend getaway. Plan a romance-filled weekend where you and your significant other can enjoy the best of Falmouth and each other’s company. “Get a reservation at a bed and breakfast. That way you can do it any time of the year.” The Captain’s Manor Inn is an ideal place to settle in for such a getaway. Located in the historic district, it’s a short stroll away from some of Falmouth’s best restaurants and boutiques.
Speaking of restaurants, there are dining options that will make any couple happy. Looking for a casual spot for a first date? Crepe Cod is a French and Moroccan café where you can get to know each other over fresh-made crepes, gelato, and smoothies. If you’re looking to impress your date, take them to Bear in Boots Gastropub for craft beers and a menu where everything, from the sausages to the pasta to the ice cream is made from scratch.
For something a little more upscale, make a reservation at the Glass Onion. The menu options include lobster strudel, pan seared Long Island duck breast, Ratatouille vegetables, and an extensive wine list. It’s perfect for an anniversary dinner, or possibly a proposal. If you’re a fan of live music, check out who’s playing at Jack’s Restaurant & Bar. Listen to a stunning jazz band while enjoying lobster bisque, steak tips, or bar style pizza.
The best part about planning a romantic outing in Falmouth is that you can plan something for any time of the year. “Falmouth is a year-round community, so you don’t have to wait until summer,” says Aldrich. “We’re surrounded by beauty.” Spohr Garden is a great example of this, as the six-acre woodland garden contains daffodils, azaleas, rhododendrons, and daylilies, all blooming at different times throughout the summer. In the Autumn, enjoy a quiet moment by Oyster Pond and admire the stunning foliage, or take a snowy walk through the woods in the winter.
