Want to avoid busy times on the trails? Arrive at the park of your choice by 8 am or after 6 pm (as long as there is adequate daylight remaining). Parking is more abundant and the trails are lightly traveled.
The locals know the best meat market in Hocking Hills is located in a gas station. Carpenter’s Mini Mart, located in the Marathon Gas Station at 1060 State Highway 93 North in Logan, offers a wide selection of fresh-cut, choice meats, perfect for grilling at your cabin.
Spend some time in historic Downtown Logan, Hocking Hills’ hometown. Check out the last operating washboard manufacturer in the country, have a taste of authentic moonshine, find local works of art at Homegrown on Main and OSU gear at Sharff’s. There’s also plenty of great eateries.

The Grandma Gatewood Trail, which connects Old Man’s Cave, Cedar Falls and Ash Cave, is named for the first woman to ever hike the entire 2000+ miles of the Appalachian Trail by herself. She was 67 years young when she hiked the trail in 1955.
The only pencil sharpener museum in the world is located at the Hocking Hills Regional Welcome Center. The Paul A. Johnson Pencil Sharpener Museum contains more than 3500 different pencil sharpeners. The museum is located at 13178 St Rt 664 S, Logan and is open daily.
New Straitsville in southeastern Hocking Hills has a colorful moonshine history. According to local lore Al Capone’s bootleggers came all the way to New Straitsville for the illicit spirits. Speakeasies in Chicago offered “Straitsville Shine” as the premium choice of moonshine.
