John McTammany is credited with several patents from 1880 through 1892, including the automatic player piano and the first voting machine based on punch cards.
Maj. Daniel McCook, his two brothers, nine sons and five nephews were known as the "Fighting McCooks" during the Civil War. Their Carrollton home is now a museum and features some of the family's mementos.
