The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival is an annual spring celebration of Japanese arts and culture organized by the Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia.
Featuring a variety of events throughout the city, the festival brings a taste of Japan to Philadelphia and highlights the beauty of Japanese sakura – the flowering cherry trees that brighten Philly’s parks and streets.
The 2024 festival kicks off April 8, with almost a month of activities exploring Japanese traditional and contemporary culture in Philadelphia, culminating in the Sakura Weekend on April 13-14 at West Fairmount Park.

Fun Facts
The first flowering cherry trees in Philly were gifted in 1926 from the Japanese government. In 1933, Japanese residents from the region planted an additional 500 alongside Kelly Drive. JASGP cares for the trees in the spirit of international friendship and has planted more than 1,000 since 1998.
