Fun Facts
Did you know the House of Commons at West Block used to be an outdoor courtyard? During your visit, look for exterior finishes inside the Chamber, including sections of copper roof, stone grotesques, and decorative iron cresting.
The Books of Remembrance commemorate the lives of over 118,000 Canadians who have died in military service. The books are elaborately decorated by hand and placed on stone altars. Visitors may see the books following a guided tour of the House of Commons at West Block.
The Peace Tower carillon is made up of 53 bells. As part of the rehabilitation of Centre Block, many of these bells have been sent to specialists in the Netherlands for repair and restoration. When Centre Block reopens to the public, the carillon will once again ring out over Parliament Hill.
