The San Luis Obispo Coast AVA encompasses roughly 408,500 acres – nearly 4,000 of which are planted with vineyards – and includes within it the Edna Valley AVA (est. 1982) and the Arroyo Grande Valley AVA (est. 1990). The maritime climate prevents peak temperature extremes and limits diurnal temperature shifts during the growing season, leading to significantly longer growing seasons than warmer inland regions, often by many weeks.
