Why You Should Go...

Expect to see Winter Island, Fort Pickering, Marblehead Neck, beautiful waterfront homes of Beverly and Marblehead, and the outlying islands (Misery, Baker's, Eagle, and Children's) on The Schooner Fame.

The original Fame was one of the first American privateers at sea and arguably the first to send in a captured vessel. She took at least 21 prizes off Maine, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick before being wrecked in the Bay of Fundy in 1814.

Imagine what life may have been on this full-scale replica of the famous privateer schooner that sailed from Salem during the War of 1812.

Insider Info

The ticket booth is located at 86 Wharf Street, outside the Finz restaurant. Weekend and holiday sails do sell out; advanced purchase is recommended.

Free parking is limited, but paid parking is available at several nearby locations.

Life is cooler out on the water... bring a sweatshirt or windbreaker just in case but keep your high heels and dress shoes at home. (Wear sneakers, sandals, or boat shoes.)

Raised sails provide shade to one side of the boat at all times, but do note there is no covered section of the boat.

Fun Facts

Launched in June 2003 from the H. A. Burnham Boatyard in Essex, MA, the replica Fame offers public sails on historic Salem Sound, where pirates, privateers, East Indiamen and men of war have been making history for 400 years.
